Hi Lamorinda Pétanque Club Members and Associates:
A new project of the Board for 2022 is to help LPC up it’s game! Pétanque is even more fun when you’re playing well, so we want to help you learn to play your best. Welcome to the new training clinics.
We’ll concentrate on form to help you be a more accurate and consistent pointer or shooter, and if you aren’t a shooter and want to become one, we’ll help you with that, too. But we’ll also work with everyone on strategy. Each session, we’ll have three coaches available, one to help develop pointing skills, one to help develop shooting skills, and one to help with the most sophisticated skill, strategy.
These aren’t just meant for people new to these skills, but an opportunity for more experienced players to broaden their approaches and skill sets — one of the things you can see clearly on the terrain, is that there’s no “correct” way, so hearing from a variety of experienced players and trying out a variety of techniques is a must to find what works best for you. And for more experienced players, please consider the clinics as a place to have conversation on the topic, not just to be given the recommendations of others.
We’ll start with one clinic a month on the first Sunday. If interest is strong, we may make them more regular.
The first clinic will be this Sunday February 6th. Pointing and shooting clinics will be from 1pm to 2pm, lead by Jean-Marie and Pete, respectively. You’ll be able to try out your new techniques during the mix starting at 2. Then, in the afternoon Pascal will lead the strategy clinic at 4pm.
Everyone is invited, both new to the game and experienced — we can all continue to grow in our games and become better players. Frazer Bradshaw is the lead and visionary for this new program.
Best,
Lamorinda Pétanque Club Board

Hello LPC Members,
Since the days are finally getting longer, we are making Sunday Club Mix Hours 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Sunday Mix hours are one of the different types of play we offer as a club, along with select team play, clinics, tournaments, etc. We will be sending more information on clinics and tournaments soon.
Why Sunday Club Mix is important:
· This is when we all come together as a club for 1 or 2 games and we all get a chance to meet everybody else, especially the new members. This is the "club" part of "Lamorinda Petanque Club" :)
· For our experienced players, this is a chance to help our up and coming players learn more than just the mechanics of the game and help them understand the more strategic aspects. Remember, we all have had mentors who made a huge difference for us. This is our chance to honor their memory and pass their investment along to the next generation of pétanque players.
· For our new players, this is a chance to play with our more experienced players and learn more about our beautiful sport. Don't worry, they don't (all) bite :)
· For the club, we build a fraternity that ensures we always have willing helpers to keep our park beautiful, a pipeline of board members to do the work behind the scenes, and a membership who are motivated and eager to help with clean-up days, tournament organization, and all the other work we all need done to help keep our club what is is.
We ask you for just 2 hours every Sunday:
Everyone is asked to “stop" whatever game they are in promptly at 2:00 pm and “join" the all-club mix. Please plan for it! We are counting on you. It is really important.
All club members are welcome to come play anytime before 2 pm or after 4 pm as usual on Sundays - we are a very friendly club, and always want and expect to be.
The new board is working on developing regular clinics for both technical and strategic skills. We’ll update you on that soon. We believe that this approach will help everyone improve their skills, encourage people to get to know each other, and very importantly, continue the special culture of the Lamorinda Pétanque Club.
Best,
Lamorinda Pétanque Club Board
